Changes to Pay-As-You-Go Plan

Pay-as-you-go is becoming an individual plan.

Our Pay-As-You-Go plan was built with solo developers and small projects in mind: simple, low-commitment, no contracts. Over time, as teams have used pay-as-you-go for production workloads, the lack of proper multi-user, larger-organization features (granular roles, separate keys per environment, billing predictability, invoice billing) has caused friction.

So today, we’re rolling out changes to pay-as-you-go to align it with that original intent, and in parallel, we’re also introducing new Flex plans that are designed for teams with recurring needs.

Here’s what's changing, what isn't, and what your options are if any of this affects how you use Geocodio.

What’s the same

Most of the existing Pay-As-You-Go plan features are staying the same.

Pay-as-you-go users will still have:

  • The 2,500/day free tier

  • No subscription, and only be charged for any free tier overage

  • First-of-the-following month wrap-up billing

  • $1/1,000 lookup rate with the ability to pre-purchase credits in bulk and save

  • US/Canada/Mexico geocoding

  • Access to all data appends

  • Access to distance calculations

What's Changing

Pay-As-You-Go is now intended for individual users, people with occasional needs, and testing purposes. This reflects how we’ve seen pay-as-you-go used over the years.

1. Single-user plan

Going forward, pay-as-you-go accounts are independent accounts, and cannot add team members.

We’ve recently completed a significant upgrade — rewrite from the ground up, really — of our team functionality that includes the ability to add billing users, developer users, and more. If your team needs additional roles, please look at a Flex plan.

All Pay-As-You-Go accounts with team members have already received an email about this. Their existing team members will continue to be associated with their account with the “Member” role, yet they won’t be able to add new users. If you believe you should have received that email but didn’t, please reach out to us.

2. Credit Card-Only Billing

Going forward, Pay-As-You-Go billing is credit-card only.

If your organization requires invoice billing to pay via ACH, you will need to switch to a Flex plan.

3. One API Key

In keeping with Pay-As-You-Go being intended for individual, occasional, and lower-volume use cases, pay-as-you-go accounts will now have one API key.

This aligns the API key allowance with spreadsheet uploads, which have long been limited to one-at-a-time for Pay-As-You-Go.

If you need multiple API keys for different applications, environments, or projects, you will need to change to a Flex or Unlimited subscription.

You keep all of your existing keys. If your Pay-As-You-Go account has multiple API keys today, you can continue to use them. We won’t remove them.

4. No UK Access

This isn't a change in the pay-as-you-go plan per se, but we wanted to make you aware given that UK support just launched: Pay-As-You-Go is US, Canada, and Mexico only.

For upstream licensing reasons, we’re required to license per user per year for access to UK data, and that simply isn’t workable with a pay-as-you-go model. We negotiated for months to try to find a solution to this, and ultimately, the solution was to add lower-volume subscription plans, which is part of how our new Flex plans came about.

UK lookups require a Flex or a UK-enabled Unlimited subscription.

Pay-as-you-go users who try to geocode UK addresses will receive an error that your account does not have access to UK data. You will not be charged for any attempted UK lookups.

How the Changes Might Affect You, and What to Do

Nothing changes for you. Carry on.

Your current team stays. If you want to add new members, you'll need a Flex plan.

The new Flex plans include UK access. For high UK volume, Unlimited + UK might be a better fit.

If your monthly volume is consistently over ~350,000 lookups, you’ve now outgrown pay-as-you-go. An annual Flex plan is likely to save you money in addition to giving you team support, UK access, and predictable billing. Our Flex Plans update has all of the details

Our new pricing calculator is designed to help you find the right plan. You’ll give your requirements and then be shown your most cost-effective option (or options, in some cases). You can adjust the requirements to see how your plan recommendations might change as your usage grows.
