Access Not Allowed Error

The "Access Not Allowed" error typically occurs when attempting to access content without proper authentication or when there are network restrictions preventing access to Geocodio. This guide will help you identify and troubleshoot the most common causes of this error.

Common Causes and Solutions

1. Accessing Spreadsheet Results Without Login

The main reason the "Access Not Allowed" error occurs is because a customer is attempting to access uploaded spreadsheet results via a direct link without being logged into the associated account.

Symptoms:

  • Error appears only when clicking on spreadsheet result links
  • You can't access the main Geocodio dashboard
  • Links were shared or bookmarked from a previous session

Solutions:

  • Ensure you are logged into your Geocodio account before accessing spreadsheet results
  • If you received a link from someone else, make sure you have access to the account that uploaded the spreadsheet

2. VPN or Firewall Restrictions

Another common cause of "Access Not Allowed" errors is VPN configurations or corporate/organizational firewalls blocking access to Geocodio.

Symptoms:

  • Error appears when trying to access any Geocodio page
  • May be accompanied by "Error! Failed to fetch" message in console
  • Issue occurs consistently from the same network location, but not other networks

Solutions:

  • Contact your IT department to verify that Geocodio domains are not being blocked by an organizational firewall
  • Request that your IT team whitelist the following domains:
  • Temporarily disable your VPN/Firewall to test if it resolves the issue
  • Try accessing Geocodio from a different network (such as your home computer or mobile hotspot) to confirm if the issue is network-specific

3. Browser-Specific Issues

Sometimes browser cache, cookies, or browser-specific configurations can cause access issues.

Symptoms:

  • Error occurs in one browser but not others
  • Issue persists even after trying different networks
  • Login page itself shows "Access Not Allowed"

Solutions:

  • Clear your browser cache and cookies for Geocodio
  • Try accessing Geocodio in a different browser (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge)
  • Use an incognito/private browsing window to test
  • If accessing the login page directly shows an error, try navigating to the root domain (https://dash.geocod.io/) instead of https://dash.geocod.io/login

Troubleshooting Steps

Follow these steps in order to diagnose and resolve the issue:

Step 1: Test Network Connectivity

Try accessing Geocodio from a different network location to determine if the issue is network-specific:

  • If at work, try accessing from home or mobile data
  • If the issue only occurs on your work network, contact your IT department

Step 2: Test Different Browsers

  • Open Geocodio in a different browser
  • Try an incognito/private browsing session
  • If it works in a different browser, clear cache and cookies in your original browser

Step 3: Check URL and Login Status

  • Ensure you're using the correct URL (https://dash.geocod.io/)
  • Verify you're logged into your Geocodio account
  • If accessing a specific spreadsheet, try navigating through your dashboard instead of using direct links

Step 4: Contact IT Support (if applicable)

If you're accessing Geocodio from a corporate or educational network:

  • Contact your IT department to verify Geocodio isn't blocked
  • Request whitelisting of Geocodio domains if necessary
  • Ask about any recent firewall or security policy changes
