Geocoded results
When you upload a spreadsheet for geocoding, we'll leave your columns in place and append additional columns to the existing spreadsheet.
We'll leave the rest of your columns untouched. If you have information that's important to you in the spreadsheet, like a user ID number, you can leave that in there and it'll still be there when you download the completed file.
In addition to the latitude & longitude, we also append a few helpful pieces of data, like accuracy score, accuracy type, and the parsed addresses.
You can download a sample geocoded spreadsheet here.
The columns we'll add will be:
Latitude/longitude coordinates, or approximate addresses if you're reverse geocoding
Parsed and standardized addresses: We'll return the parsed address data as individual, standardized values. You'll find that street suffixes and directions are always abbreviated, and the capitalization of words are also standardized.
Completed address:
For US locations: Street, City, State, 5-digit ZIP Code, County
For Canadian locations: Street, City, Province, partial postal code or user-submitted postal code (see note below)
For Mexican locations: Street, Locality, Postal Code, City, Province (abbreviation)
Example: Calzada Independencia Sur 991, 44100 Guadalajara, JAL Mexico
For UK locations: Street, City (post town), County, Postcode, Country
Example: 10 Downing Street, London, Greater London, SW1A 2AA, GB
Accuracy scores and types for each result: Accuracy types are the type of result (such as rooftop) and accuracy scores are a function of differences between input and output. See more about what this means here.
A note on Mexico address data: In Mexico, Geocodio only provides rooftop coordinates. We have full rooftop coverage for every single province in Mexico, as well as a countrywide dataset.
A note on UK address data: Geocodio only provides Northern Ireland data at postcode-level accuracy. However, all districts in Northern Ireland follow postcode boundaries, so this level of accuracy is sufficient for district matching.
Any additional data you've requested. Read more about data appends.
UK data appends
For UK addresses, you can also append political constituency and district data including Westminster, devolved parliaments (Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland), and local wards by selecting them during the upload process or via the API.
2. A map of the results
You'll also be able to create a map with markers and labels.
You can share the map (publicly or privately)
To create or edit, open the map on the dashboard. (Note: you must be logged in in order to see this page.)
Note on Canadian postal codes
Full postal codes in Canada are proprietary to Canada Post. Therefore, for licensing reasons, if you do not provide a postal code for a Canadian location, Geocodio will return only the first three characters (FSA), which is open-source.
If you supply a full Canadian postal code with your input, Geocodio will check that the FSA matches our internal data and, for your convenience, return the user-inputted full postal code in the results. Such full postal codes have not been verified or corrected by Geocodio, and Geocodio makes no claims about their accuracy.
